We have recently recieved the following letter, it arrived in an A6 brown envolope, with a Perrivale post mark and a hand written address on the front. The envolope has been analysed and elements of human swet, blood and lemon insence was found to have been present on the envolope.

The letter itself was written on wide lined paper and has been discovered to have come from a standard Royal Mail letter writing pad. We have again discovered that Perivale, does indeed have a post office and it does sell such pads in large numbers.

The letter was written in black ink from a cheap biro. These are also sold at any good post office for, by moden standards, a resonable price. The handwriting appears under analysis to have been written by a man who at the time of writiting was in a very calm state of mind.

It says:

Beware the agent of the Dweller in the Dark, beware the one in human guise.

Johnathan Case wasnt and look what happened to him,
Marry Smart thought she could outwit them and now look at her,
Jon Libby and Eric Ahluwalla invoked the Golden seal and this helped them not,
Others have not headed my word and now one knows what happened to them for sure?

Please answer me this:

What is better than the best,
More evil than demons,
Poor have it,
The rich need it,
And if you eat it you will die,
What am I?

So I have one thing to ask you all who is afraid of the Darke?

The letter ended there no signature.

Well I am putting this to you all what do you make of it?
The answer I believe to be "Nothing".

"Nothing" is better than the best.
"Nothing" is more evil than demons,
The poor have "Nothing",
The rich need "Nothing",
and if you eat "Nothing" you will surely die.

I hope I am correct in my deductions.
hmm, if you think that "nothing" is more evil than demons than you must either be extreamly young or my name sake, lol

A.I
Several other members have suggested the answer is "Nothing" as well. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this one?

I have heard of this riddle before in my travels, and it was concluded it mean't nothing. As far as I am aware, its been used for centuries.

I have studied not essentially the texts answer itself but the origins of where the actual riddle resides, in hope of finding more answers, as sometimes people are 'cunning' enough to hide an answer within a question quite litterally, or an answer within an answer.

This riddle derives from the East and was once a proverb which was translated from Babylonian origin, more specifically it itself (As far as I can tell) Has been used in several different riddles, dialects and languages all pointing to the same conclusion ("Nothing") Since the time of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. I hope this may shine some 'light' on the situation, however i could be wrong.

Ironically also, this riddle itself is usually answered correctly by those of a more simple mind, where as tests have been taken where Children in the United States answered the riddle more correctly in a higher ratio than Senior University Students. Thats not a slight or insult on those who have answered, rather I thought it would be amusing for those to know who have answered. Perhaps this explains more rather the society of America than the riddle itself however.

To A.I - I believe the riddles answer is "Nothing", I think our established collegue here who said as such doesnt believe nothing is more evil than Demons, rather that is the answer. I believe this was explained in Dr William Kains Supernatural Entities 101 tutorials - Beings of Evil.

"Beware the agent of the Dweller in the Dark, beware the one in human guise. " I must confess, that has cought my ears attention.

In Humble Service.

Val.

Most likely, the answer is "nothing", so I have nothing more to add other than an alternate answer to this riddle, just incase it does happen to be the wrong answer. It never hurts to have a back up plan.

So prehaps the answer may be "Faith" or "Hope"? It might sound like a wild stab in the dark, but no idea is a bad idea and if the society don't like those answers, they don't need to take it.

Yours Sincerely

Damien Bennet
