Greetings all.

I figured that this section need not be purely centered around LARP systems.... let it be about the various ROLEPLAY systems out there.....

So, I was taken by a package in Waterstones that was called Exalted. In particular a rather nice pack called "Dreams of the First Age", and wondered if any of you motley lot had ever played, or own, Exalted in one guise or another? What do you think of it? Is it a worthy purchase and would I, a TOTAL newbie at understanding, fathoming and creating an adventure, be able to work through this one and put together a game some time in the future??????

I checked the wiki on it and it seems basic enough - a D10 game where u chose stats based on their "dot" worth (1-5 dots) and then when you roll its on however many D10 you get and you must get above 7 to succeed and below that is a failure with 10 being a double most times.

Cheers muchly!

Yes the group (well some of them at least) has played Exalted before, about five years ago. I have many of the first edition books (I believe it is on the second edition now). An interesting game, a kind of western take on the Manga fantasy genre, my main concern with the game was that some of the player options seemed to be a lot more powerful than others, though this may have been addressed.

So is this going to be the first game you are running?
Exalted is onto second edition, yes. there are also about five or six addition manuals covering other exalted races. Technically I shouldn't be splashing out on this (£30) but I feel like it, but am still wondering if I should!?

It would be my first game if I bought and learnt it, yes.
That's the actual 2nd edition rulebook (set in the second age) and the Dreams pack (set in the second age) bought.

So now to teach myself Exalted....! and then think up some ideas for games!!! Smile

I'm going to start by roughly converting the CotH characters that usually play at monday nights into Solar Exalted characters to give me input and ideas into how the game runs on paper and then if anyone wants to play they can either use those (with any modifications they want to implement) or make their own new characters up from scratch.

Sweet Smile

thinking I should put this into the tabletop section too!!!
I've played it before and it's a good system. I never played ed 1 so I can't compare the two and tell you if it's still like that.

I saw the post on the TT section first so the rest of my thoughts are there
Psst, dreams is set in the 1st age
I have both the main rulebook and Dreams now :-)

And Nevyn is converted nicely!

Do you have a character set up in Exalted Emma?

Yep, Am a night caste with Lightning Torment Hatchets and 4 dots in thrown with a spec in them.

I also have some nice charms to hit critical locations (more die damage) and another misleading one (they get hit from a different direction.

Actually, I've just remembered I have 2 charas. That's the Solar and the other is a dragonblood. wood spec as I thought I'd try a heal bot

I was thinking about trying to convert Adelaide when I first started but I couldn't work out how the sorcery worked.

Once I get my computer back up and running (posting from work) I'll send you down my three character sheets:

Ping Lo the ever-pissy, Ganjo the Sun's Nail and Heinrik, The Mind's Guardian (Exalted version of Mentsguard)

Ping Lo is a sorcerer of the Twilight Caste, part Li Kao, part Pang Tong, part generic anime hermit.

Ganjo is a thief and blacksmith of the Zenith class.

Heinrik is Mentsguard, but Exalted.
I may need to try converting Adelaide as an NPC when I run my game. That could be very fun Big Grin

As long as people are happy that there may be some changes to characters then there shouldn't be a problem
Actually it might be an idea to give people the option of not playing their CoftH characters, as has been pointed out not all of them cross over very well. If I remember I’ll show you Karn, a Dawn Caste warrior/bodyguard, which would probably fit in better than a vicious death and murder obsessed priest, which would be better suited to being an Abyssal (the sourcebook for which I do have – they just don’t play well with Solars).

On a personal level while I know people like knowing exactly who everyone is playing in any given game, I prefer making up new characters and losing the inevitable baggage that comes with playing the same persona again and again.
