Hi all,

A quick Admin post for those of you not used to the myBB forums:

If you wish to add a photo/image/similar to your post then there are two options.

1. If the image is already online then use the "Insert Image" icon (the small hills and sun icon) above the text typing area and place the URL (location) of the image into the box that pops up.

2. If your image is on your computer's harddrive or similar then use the "New Attachment" bar further down the page, below the typing box area. This allows you to select your image and insert it into your text. Click on the "Browse" button to find your image and then press the "Add Attachment" button over to the right. You can then place your curser within your text, where you want the image and press the "Insert Into Post" button alongside the attachments name. In this way you can chose where the attachment goes. (You can also remove it).

I hope that helps somewhat.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask Smile
Tip Number Two :

I have had several people asking me how to change their "Junior Member" Status message underneath their name.

Simple! (when you know how LMAO Exclamation - thanks to Terran/Darren for making me see you could change this as I'd been wondering about it myself! and thanks to Cat/Ceinwein for actually finding out how to do it!!!!) Cool

When you are logged in - at the top of your page under the banner is a blue link called "User CP" (User Control Panel). Click that.

On the left is a box called "Your Profile" with an entry called "Edit Profile". Click that.

On the right hadn side of the screen is a box called "Custom User Title" where you can enter your custom title.

Once that is done click the "Update Profile" link at the bottom and voila. You are no longer a "Junior Member" Big Grin

[EDIT POST] I've found the User Title preferences, so we now have 5 levels: Initiate; Apprentice; Journeyman; Master; Grand Master Tongue [EDIT]

Sam.
What does initiate mean?
An initiate is someone who has not yet finished going through the basic introduction to something.

Remember back when you was going up to secondary school, you went for a half-day "initiation" in to your secondary school to see what it would be like the next term...same thing effectively.

You're new to the boards, but by the time you've done a dozen or so posts you'll know your way around and be an Apprentice Big Grin
kk? Wink
When typing up your messages any words that become underlined in red are spelt incorrectly! If you press your right mouse button over that miss-spelt word a list of possible corrections will be displayed which you can then select your choice of.

Nice and simple, and a good way to cut out all those mistakes! Smile

Sam
For those of you who are getting rather old, or have a poor monitor or have drunk too much you can quickly and easily resize ANY (ie not just this site but ANY web page) font up by pressing [CTRL] + [+] and down again with [CTRL] + [-] . This will make all of the elements on the page increase or decrease, including images etc.

Enjoy Smile
MyCode allows you to quickly do things within your messages. The way to do this is put the code in front of your text surrounded by square brackets [] and then the same code shut code with a / at the end within those brackets.

(with all of the following I have had to include a space within the first [ ] square brackets so the code does not publish. Please do not include the space!)

So [ b] would result in bold text here

Simple! Smile the other MyCode codes are as follows:

bold [ b] Example Text
italic [ i] Example Text
underline [ u] Example Text
strikethrough [ s][/s] Example Text
image [ img]http://mysite.com/mypic.jpg[/img]
font color [ color=red] Example Text
font size [ size=3] Example Text
font face [ font=tahoma] Example Text
text alignment [ align=center]
Example Text
URL [ url]http://url.com http://www.example_url.com
[ url=http://url.com]My URL Example URL
email [ email]myemail@mydomain.com ExampleEmail@Example.com
[ email=myemail@mydomain.com]My Email Example Email

Latest update to myBB (the forum software) has many improvements - most behind the scenes.

However the most obvious improvement from the users point of view is that I've turned on the "view similar posts" option meaning that whenever you view a thread, if you scroll to the bottom of the page there will be a list of similar threads.

Sam
There appears to be a mild bug in myBB which means that even if a forum is fully read the initial icon on the front page stays dark blue (indicating unread messages). Check the list of sub-forums underneath and if non of the dots there appear dark-blue you know all posts have been read. To get rid of the dark-blue dot simply click on that icon and it will change.

A new button has been added to the bank of icons at the bottom of posts. Called "Top" it returns you to the top of the page with one click, handy for long threads where you want to access the links at the top of the page!
You can now also give an instant "thank you" to someone by pressing the "Thanks" button at the bottom of a post!
Let people know you appreciate their post!
Some of you are naturally busy people (some are sad like me and use mobile internet to keep an eye on the forum!) and may not have time to keep an eye on a thread that is important to you.

At the bottom of a thread there is a link called "subscribe to this thread" which, once clicked, will keep you informed of any replies to that post!

Very handy!! Smile

Also, when writing a post in FULL mode (not the quick reply box) you get a similar chose below the post.

Doubly handy!! Smile
We have had a lovely influx of new people to the forums over the past few months, so I am posting a reply here to "bump" this thread back into public view.

Please go back to the top of this thread and read through all the hints and tips I have written so that you know how do do all the things the forums can do such as spell-check, insert images/videos, give thanks etc etc etc.

Many thanks.

Even more new people to the forum in the past month, so yet another "Bump" for this post. Please all read!! Smile

We now have the ability to "favourite" a thread! Smile

Along the bottom of any post you will see, on the left hand end of the options icons (bottom right of posts) a Star with a + symbol.

Press this and you can "quick add" or "add with notes" this thread to your favourites list (50 allowed).

To view/manage your favourites go to your UserCP and at the very bottom of the list on the left is "Master Favourite Posts". Click that and view/manage them all.

Lovely! Big Grin
