William Baxter – Fortune’s favoured
Night Hunter – Justice from the shadows
Image – The changing man
SeaHawk – Strength, power and duty from the waters to the air
Dr Abs – The healing touch that packs a punch
Overspeed – Barter Towns very own speedster
AND INTRODUCING!!!
Diamond Bunny
To Spring a trap!:
Seeing the evil Spring Heeled Jack the super speedster Overspeed shoots into action, Fortune’s favourite son William Baxter gets a flash of the future but is not in time to stop Overspeed before Spring Heeled Jack closes the warehouse door, trapping Gate City’s fastest son outside. It appears that the cunning gentleman of crime knows our heroes are there and warns his Cohort!
Hearing this the Secret Wardens leap into action, Night Hunter smashing through the skylight and rappelling down on a rope, while Solid State simply leaps through the broken skylight, turning to metal as he falls. Our mysterious waiting villain reveals himself to be the dreaded Phobos, the smoky prince of fear! While Fortune’s favoured shoots the sprinkler system, dampening Pyros’ fun, Spring Heel Jack literally leaps into action striking Solid State, while the man of metal is rocked by the blow he refuses to go down, leaving the Night Hunter to dodge the blows from both the meathead Crunch and Phobos.
DeadEye tries to shoot at William Baxter, but who can shoot the luckiest man in town? The ghost-like Image joins the fray teleporting behind the gun wielding mercenary, preparing to take him out of the fight.
Overspeed and SeaHawk both arrive, Overspeed literally running up the walls of the building to help their comrades, and then running down the same rope Night Hunter used Overspeed strikes out at Spring Heel Jack, only to miss. Meanwhile SeaHawk tackles the beautiful and dangerous Blood Flower as she investigates the crate, finding the Crown of Restitution and a second smaller mysterious crate.
DeadEye is stunned by a shot from William Baxter, who then shots Spring Heel Jack appearing to take him out of the fight. DeadEye while trying to recover is stopped in his tracks by Image, who not only helps the hostages to escape but takes on DeadEye’s features, confusing the enemy.
Solid State and Crunch stand toe to toe trading mighty blows against each other, without apparent effect. This appears to change when Night Hunter uses a flash grenade to stun Phobos, which appears to work but catches Solid State in the blast as well. Things look bad for the man of metal as Crunch shakes off the grenade and begins pounding down on the living metal hero.
Before Overspeed can relish that Spring Heel Jack is down, he is it by a fiery blast from Pyro. Caught unaware he takes the full blast and crashes to the ground and lays unmoving. Within the crate SeaHawk catches Blood Flower with a mighty punch sending her flying, dazed she struggles to her feet. Instead of fighting the paragon of air and sea, she grabs the crown and is gone in the blink of an eye, leaving a fuming SeaHawk standing there!
The disguised Image uses DeadEye’s cyber rifle against Pyro who shrugs off the effect, just as William Baxter shoots the demon of fear Phobos in the head, only to see the bullet pass through his smoky form. While Pyro throws a fireball back against the changing man, missing, Phobos who has recovered seeks to envelope Night Hunter inside his choking form. Night Hunter though is stronger and turns to attack the ebony villain.
Spring Heel Jack leaps out of the warehouse past Fortune’s favoured, his mission at least partially complete. One the ground Solid State recovers and delivers two mighty blows, first stunning then knocking the man mountain Crunch out. Pyro realising that he is on his own flees, quickly followed by Phobos despite the groups valiant efforts to stop him, he delivers one final threat to Image “We’ll meet again soon,” as he drifts under the door.
The battle won, Dr Abs rouses the fallen Overspeed and the Secret Wardens begin to clear up the mess, SeaHawk flies the unconscious DeadEye to the Fortress, while Solid State stands guard over the man mountain Crunch. The rest of the Secret Wardens investigate the mysterious second crate, William uses his foresight to see that the crate holds a woman, who is released by Image. What they find is a blue furred girl, with long rabbit like ears, the elfin Diamond Bunny.
The battle won the Secret Wardens differing personalities begin to show the fault lines in the group as they begin to argue about what happens next. Independently William investigating the warehouse’s computer finds a vital clue about the warehouse’s owner and where the Crown and Diamond Bunny were meant to be heading, while at the Fortress SeaHawk makes a startling discovery himself.
The Secret Wardens are drawn back to the Fortress where the disagreements continue and revelations made. KoH Logistics appears to be owned by the Knave of Hearts and the Crown was to be used to bring back the Usurper, with Diamond Bunny to be its living battery. She was chosen as she is the illegitimate daughter of Cheko the most powerful mutant on the planet and also the Gatekeepers niece! It appears that two of the four Jacks are involved, but appear to be working against each other instead of together. Almost copying the schism, Image and SeaHawk almost come to blows, before calmer heads intervene. It is decided that Diamond Girl should stay in the Secret Wardens base to be kept safe and Image teleports her there. The night has turned calm, maybe too calm!?!
