So, last year I built up a bunch of hype about a truly awesome and potentially ground-breaking LARP taking place in Lulworth, with a free weekend being funded by outside sponsorship and allowing members of the public to spectate and get involved. The central concept was that the larp would be run in and around an existing pirate festival and would be very gamist, with four factions competing to see who could steal the most gold and have the highest price on their heads by the end of the event. The IC Town would be guarded by the militia, the traders would all be robbable and extortionable, and the whole thing would be available for Joe Public to wander through, enjoy and get mugged (for purely IC money).
Unfortunately, with two months to go and numbers beginning to build (The bookings were in the low 600s by this point) a large proportion of the sponsorship the organizers had set up went and pulled out, leaving the organizers with not enough cash to actually fund the game, and the whole thing had to be canceled.
They learned their lessons though. Dead Pirates Tell No Tales is taking place at Fort Widley on the 21st - 25th May (Thursday through Bank Holiday Monday), this time being entirely funded out of the organizers pockets (they're hoping to recoup their loses through sponsorship and attendances, but are no longer depending on them for capital). Four different bands of pirates will be laying siege to the local village, with the militia and the brave men of the inland revenue doing all they can to protect the King's Cash. And the people, of course. First 400 bookings are free (although possibly already taken), with cheap weapons being made available by Sean of Medlock, and yes, militia do get to buy larp-safe muskets (which is why I'm definitely going).
Check it out at
http://www.scurvyscum.com . And get ready for awesome...
Gahar!
**Edit: Anyone who mentions that I got the dates wrong wins a slap**
The militia also get bunk beds!
On a serious note....
This thing has the chance to seriously raise the profile of LARP in the UK and show the likes of CP and LT that charging an arm and a leg for poor service is not the way to go.
Its also a great opportunity to get people who have not LARPed before a taste. So invite the sceptics along!
I'm 100% behind the organisers of this event. Its a great idea that deserves to work and with our support it will!
I will happily offer transport for as many people as I can get into my car just to lend an helping hand.
Yo ho! Me hearties Yo ho!
Spearpoint....it helps if you tell the masses who you are

Troy.
I'm very tempted by this..... but i really can't afford too many days off work atm :/ So i'll just have to say "have a keg o' dark on me ladz! ah-ha!"

They should be sending out an email to all registered people to get them to confirm. But send on confirming anyway, can't hurt.
(Maybe I am Troy, maybe not, I think I shall preserve the mystery!)

* Bifford looks at Spearpoint. Grins and then says "mawhawhaw. Admin. Userlist. Email address. OWNED. mawhawhaw" and sticks his tongue out at Troy
Grrr... some people... using their 4th dimensional abilities to look inside the box.
So now I have to play an undead pirate? Thanks Biff...
ah, but ARE you undead? or still alive? or possibly even just plain dead?
Ok people, this is for anyone who is going to this coming scurvy scum event in may.
This monday night coming could you all bring along any pistols and basket hilts etc that you will be using or wiling to lend. If you do not come to the monday nights can you make a note on here.
Also, please note whether or not you will be buying any of these items at the event, and whether or not you have or are going to get a musket.
The plan i'm going for is to have everyone with a minimum of one pistol and an appropriate sword, and then everyone with either a musket, pole arm or second pistol.
Also, if anyone has a non cap firing pistol, get it to me by monday evening and i'll see if it's pinnable, if so it shall be done!

Right guys, some or all of you may have received an email from troy about changes to the town guard roles. Basically, less guard duties, pre emphasise on other duties, and the event is now free for town guard.
However, I have had another idea. a while ago many of you received a message from me on facebook about getting s load of us together as a musical entertainment group, one because lots of us enjoy it, two because some of us are good at it, and three because many events, scurvy included, are free for performers. What I propose OS s group of travelling bards. This way it covers singers, dancers, musicians, story tellers, fortune tellers and anything else entertaining that you are good at. The event would be free, we could charge IC coin and of anyone wad going as town guard we could work together for information.
For scurvy I'd be looking at this for next years events. Nut it wouldn't just be limited to scurvy.
